A repeat offender is facing dozens of charges after police arrested him at a construction site on 10 outstanding warrants and allegedly found him in possession of a prohibited gun.
Calgary police say the accused had been released from custody in July but soon violated his release conditions.
On Sept. 16, officers saw the suspect enter a new-home construction on Voyageur Drive NW in the community of Varsity in an alleged attempt to steal electrical wire. Investigators also allege he was driving a vehicle despite being prohibited from doing so under the conditions of his release.
Logan Donald Smith was arrested without incident. During the arrest, police say they seized a sawed-off shotgun with its serial number removed, along with ammunition.
As a result, Smith faces a lengthy list of charges, including drug possession, break and enter, theft of motor vehicles, possession of stolen property, firearm offences and multiple breaches of court-ordered conditions.
The charges include two counts of possession of a controlled substance, two counts of driving while prohibited, one count of break and enter, one count of possession of break-in tools, two counts of motor vehicle theft, one count of mischief over $5,000 and one count of possession of stolen property.
He is also charged with several firearm-related offences, including possession of a prohibited firearm, possession of a firearm without a licence, possession of a firearm with accessible ammunition, possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number and carrying a concealed weapon. Smith additionally faces two counts of breaching a firearms prohibition order and 13 counts of breaching a release order.
Smith remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday.
