Changes coming on Metis, Bow and Sarcee

A number of key traffic notes for Calgary commuters this weekend.

North and southbound traffic along major routes in Calgary’s northeast is about to get some much needed relief.

Callers to the 660News traffic centre say the city has posted signs near the airport saying the new leg of Metis Trail between 80th Ave. and Country Hills Blvd. will open sometime this weekend.

Traffic has been very congested in the area during rush hours since Barlow Trail closed in April to build a new runway at Calgary International Airport.

Meanwhile, Commuters heading west out of downtown may have to alter their route Saturday.

Westbound Bow Trail in the southwest is slated to be closed at Crowchild Trail from 9:00 a.m. Saturday until 6:00 p.m.

The city is pouring concrete as part of the Bow Trail bridge rehabilitation project.

The city says the Greyhound bus station and Pumphouse Road will still be accessible on westbound Bow Trail, but other traffic will be detoured to 17th Ave.

When the lanes reopen, they will be in a new alignment.

And, the new interchange at 17th Ave. and Sarcee Trail in the southwest will finally open, at least partially, at 6:00 p.m. Friday.

Until late Saturday night there will be no access from 17th Ave. to southbound Sarcee Trail, but after that, the new interchange should be up and running in all directions.
