Poppy campaign launches

Lapels across Canada are about to get some dashes of red.

The Royal Canadian Legion launches its annual poppy campaign Friday.

According to the Legion’s website, the poppy was first adapted as a symbol of remembrance in 1921, with the first lapel flowers appearing a year later.

The poppy grew in great numbers in Flanders, France before WWI but then quickly started disappearing when the war ended.
