Alleged torture victim says he couldn’t leave
In his third day on the stand at Dustin Paxton’s torture trial, the alleged victim is under cross examination by the defence.
The man, who can not be identified due to a court order, told the court a severe brain injury has affected both his memory and his judgement.
Facing questions from Paxton’s lawyer, the man testified he woke up in a Regina hospital with complete amnesia, not knowing who he was, where he was or where he had been.
He said his memories have gradually come back to him.
When asked why he declined what he admitted were opportunities to escape his situation with Paxton, the witness said, “You have to understand, I had a severe brain injury, my judgement was totally compromised.”
He reiterated that point on several occasions in testimony Wednesday.
Dustin Paxton has pleaded not guilty to charges of aggravated assault, forcible confinement and sexual assault.
