Manhole blast in northwest

Residents in the northwest neighbourhood of Arbour Lake are back in their homes after having to leave this afternoon.

Several manholes burst and led to the evacuation of 118 homes in the community.

The incident took place around 1:00 p.m. Friday afternoon and resident Richard Burke says he was in his garage when he heard a loud “bang.”

“I ran down the street and thought someone was working in a garage and thought it was a car explosion but then I saw the manhole being thrown across the street.”

It’s believed a flammable product got into the sewer system from one of the homes, but the exact cause is still being investigated.

No one was injured nor homes damaged and all utilities have been restored and checked for safety.
