Fire crews extinguish large grass fire

A speedy and aggressive response from the fire department has led to them containing a very large grass fire within an hour.
The blaze was along Stoney Trail and Centre Street NW and took place around 3:30 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.
660News listener Natashah Dhalla called into the newsroom to describe what she was seeing.
“It’s so visible from the road, all you see is a cloud of smoke as you approach it and then when you come even closer, you see this long line of just fire. I’ve never seen a thing like this.”
Sheelagh tells 660News, “The length of it is huge!”
Brian McAsey with the fire department says their biggest concern was with wind gusts up to 52 km/h which was pushing the fire towards the Evanston community.
He says the fire was 1.5 kilometres by 1.5 kilometres in size with multiple leading edges.
In less than an hour the fire was controlled and extinguished with no property damage and no harm to life.
