Arbour Lake explosion cause revealed

The fire department said Monday the explosion in Arbour Lake that forced the evacuation of 118 homes on Friday was likely caused by someone pouring a hazardous substance down the drain.

Fire spokesman Brian McAsey said static electricity probably ignited the substance.

“Many of the most dangerous chemicals are actually household ones, and very innocuous-seeming household goods, like, say, gasoline, can cause quite a lot of problems if improperly disposed,” said McAsey.

Free disposal of dangerous materials is available at several fire stations and city landfill Throw n’ Go areas.
