Icy sidewalks top bylaw complaints

When it comes to Calgary’s top bylaw complaint, icy sidewalks are number one.

Residents made close to 12,000 calls to the city last year.

Calgary’s chief bylaw officer Bill Bruce admits to The Calgary Herald they could do a lot better.

Under the bylaw, property owners are responsible to clear ice and snow within 24 hours of snow falling.

If you don’t and the city has to do it, the bill starts at $150.

In 2009, the city had almost 900 slip and fall incidents.  One young woman actually died after hitting her head.
