Federal spending up with Harper: report

A government report says stimulus spending and rising health care costs make up most of a 22 per cent spike in federal spending in the first five years Harper’s Conservatives were behind the reigns.

The report shows tens of billions of dollars went into Canada’s economic action plan to counteract the economic downturn.

Meanwhile, the Canada Health Transfer continues to grow by six per cent per year until 2013-14.

Now, the Tories are doing an operating review that requires almost 70 government departments and agencies to submit five per cent and 10 per cent suggested budget cuts.
