Nine youngsters are the 2011 Husky Heroes

Nine children between the ages of seven and 11 are this year’s Husky Heroes after making a critical call to 911 during an emergency.
Ten-year-old Sarah Hum was recognized Friday for using sign language to translate information from a 911 operator for her deaf mother who had fallen and hurt her head.
Another winner, 10-year-old Suman Jaswal, called police after she came home to a break-in in progress just a few weeks ago.
In December of last year, 10-year-old Seth La Prairie called 911 when his grandfather’s blood sugar dropped dangerously low and he collapsed.
“I was sleeping and I heard a crash and then I got up and I saw my papa’s light on, and I went to see if he was okay and I saw him lying on the ground,” said Seth.
Now, Seth keeps juice boxes all around the house so it doesn’t happen again.
Winners are nominated by communications officers who answer their 911 calls.
Husky Energy, the Calgary Emergency Medical Services Foundation and Public Safety Communications give out the awards each year.
