New breast screening guidelines

For the first time in a decade, Canada is about to update breast cancer screening guidelines.
Currently, women over the age of 50 at average risk of the disease are advised to get a mammogram every two years.
The Toronto Star reports a letter signed by 40 physicians and radiologists was published over the weekend claiming some researchers are leading an active anti-cancer screening campaign.
There has been recent criticism about the guidelines suggesting regular mammograms lead to over-diagnoses and some unnecessary treatment.
The guidelines will be released in the Canadian Medical Association journal.
