Canada’s environment minister won’t deny reports the government will pull out of the Kyoto Protocol next month.
Peter Kent calls Kyoto a thing of the past and wants to have a new global climate deal at the United Nations conference that starts Monday in South Africa.
“We expect the major emitters which were not a party to Kyoto, the China’s, the India’s, the United States to step forward and play their part to materially reduce greenhouse gasses.”
Kent also calls Kyoto one of the biggest blunders of the previous liberal government.
The Conservatives also announced they are pledging $600-million dollars over five years to improve air quality across Canada.
