Monitoring system prevented wind storm injuries

The city is crediting an early warning weather forecasting alert for helping it mobilize to prevent tragedy during Sunday’s wind storm.
The technology was brought in after little Michelle Krsek was killed by a piece of flying debris during a freak wind storm in August 2009.
It has been set up at three sites in Calgary, and will be mandatory for new downtown towers in the next year.
The system gives the city a 48-hour heads up when gale force winds could be headed our way.
The Calgary Herald reports the equipment warned of high winds early Saturday, giving emergency response officials time to prepare.
