Confidence among small business owners in Alberta is on the downslide.
The latest business barometer from the Canadian Federation of Independent Business shows a drop in optimism in november, hot on the heels of another decline the previous month.
“Definitely if you look a little bit deeper in the numbers, and some of the other questions we ask in the survey, there’s reason to be concerned,” says CFIB spokesman Richard Truscott. “There is definitely a softening in the perception among small business owners about the overall state of business in the province.”
Truscott adds that many people are looking forward to a new lease on business life in 2012.
“Hopefully 2012 brings an end to the trend, the downward drift that we’ve seen in the last couple of months, and hopefully the perceptions and the optimism levels among small business owners improves over the next coming year,” he adds.
Truscott says the hospitality sector is very concerned about what impact the province’s new drunk driving law will have on their business.
Even with the recent slide in business confidence, small business owners in Alberta are the second most optimistic in the land behind Saskatchewan.
