Occupiers refuse to speak after press conference called

The tents are already gone from Olympic Plaza, but a new statue is in place.

Occupy Calgary protesters are ordered to be out off the grounds by 2:00 p.m. Friday, but the group was clearing the premises as early as 5:00 a.m.

They refused comment to media members who were present, and even held-up large blue tarps to try and block camera shots.

Legal advisor to the group, Ben Christensen, tells 660News he was as surprised as anyone that the group packed-up early.

He claims he has no idea what the group’s plans are, or what will happen to the Occupy movement in Calgary.

Handing out written statements to the members of the media, Occupy Calgary protesters refused to comment on their current situation at the 9 a.m. press conference.

In the written statement there are a lot of questions as organizers try to make sense of what has happened.

They have asked that the 12 foot statue that they have left behind be left as a monument to human suffering.

City By-law Director Bill Bruce says it will have to go “We will put it in a safe place and ask the arts and culture people to have a look at it and see if it fits into somewhere in the city.”
