Calgary elementary school powers up!

A Calgary school is giving its students a hands-on lesson in living green by installing solar panels.
Wildrose Public School teacher Karen Beck says they have installed 14 panels on their facility’s roof with installation finishing up Tuesday.
“The Grade 4 students, two years ago, created the documentary and they were the ones that really spearheaded it,” Becks tells 660News, “and had the initiative to start looking at reducing our energy by turning off the lights and opening up our blinds and talking to classes.”
Beck herself played a role, and so did community support.
“I personally was very annoying, probably, because I kept asking questions and asking for funding and asking for money,” she adds. “Actually the corporate funding that we’ve received has been unreal.”
“The more panels we get, the more savings we’ll have,” Beck continues. “So we’ll see. We’re going actually be tuning in to see what our energy intake is and then how much energy we’re generating from our solar panels. So we’ll be able to do the math and see how much of an impact we’re making.”
Beck says the students will be able to track their progress and how much the school is saving online, thanks to Enmax.
