Cop car hit by drunk driver

A police officer trying to pull over a vehicle Thursday night on Deerfoot Trail for a traffic stop was rear-ended by another vehicle.
Duty Insp. Shawn Wallace tells 660 News it appears the offending driver had been drinking and couldn’t avoid hitting the police vehicle even though its emergency lights were activated.
Wallace says the crash reinforces the importance of not drinking and driving.
“It doesn’t matter if you are .08 or .05 never is it ok because that affects your decision making at any time especially behind the wheel it could become deadly at the drop of the hat,” he says.
The police officer and the man who allegedly drove into his vehicle both suffered minor injuries.
Charges are pending.
