Taxi Industry wants licenses for extra cabs

Calgary’s taxi industry is asking the city to approve licenses for 100 new cabs.
The Calgary Livery Association says the new plates would serve a specific purpose; 50 would be employed at night, and 50 would be delegated for use by disabled customers.
The request comes as new tough drunk driving penalties loom in the New Year, and the industry anticipates demand for taxis will rise as a result.
