Calgary Transit delivers Magic of Christmas

Eighteen magically-decorated reindeer sleigh buses will carry Santa Claus and his elves Saturday morning to deliver the Magic of Christmas to those in need.

Calgary Transit buses will be filled with Christmas gifts generously donated by both private and corporate Calgarians, to share the joy of the season with almost 4,000 people in our city.

Elves on each bus prepare Santa’s bag for every house, counting the children inside and making sure the boys and girls will all receive something special.

Jason Gagnon, a volunteer elf, says the feeling of giving back is unlike any other.

“To be able to bring the joy to all these families and to see the smiles and the kids eyes light up is just a wonderful thing to be a part of,” said Gagnon.

Now in its 32nd year, the Magic of Christmas organization has given back to thousands of people.

With the hard work of volunteers, donated Calgary Transit buses will deliver Christmas food hampers and special gifts to families, who otherwise wouldn’t have any.

Jim Brown, who takes on the role of Ol’ Saint Nick each year, explains why he returns every Christmas.

“It’s a real treat to be able to make a difference in someone’s life, but to be there and see their reaction when you do, is such a special experience,” said Brown.

In total, 400 volunteers will make stops at over 350 homes as well as hospitals and seniors’ homes in Calgary sharing the true Magic of Christmas.
