Early numbers in for 2011 Enhanced Check Stop program

While fewer vehicles have been stopped so far this year, more charges have been laid compared to 2010 statistics.
Police have pulled over a total of 5,025 vehicles, conducting 87 roadside tests.
Of those tested, four drivers failed, 13 were issued warnings and 36 were given a 24-hour license suspension for drug or alcohol offences.
Police say in the same time frame last year they had pulled over 1,400 more drivers, none of whom were charged.
The numbers are based on Check Stops conducted between Dec. 8 and Dec. 23.
Police are reminding Calgarians the Enhanced Check Stop program will continue in to the New Year.
