50th Ave. S.E. reopened following CN Rail yard fire

Fire crews are mopping up at the scene of a blaze at the CN Rail yard at 50th Ave. near 36th St. S.E.

A hydraulic crane went up in flames around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday with the blaze spreading to a nearby container.

It took firefighters about 45 minutes to get the fire under control.

Batt. Chief Don Huska says crews were concerned about 400 litres of diesel fuel, but they were able to contain the risk.

“We used two tenders to transfer water and we also extended lines across 50th Avenue to obtain water to control the fire,” says Batt. Chief Don Huska.

No one was injured.  No word on a cause yet.
