Activists condemn logging around Castle Mountain

An environmental activist group is condemning logging in the Castle Mountain area, saying it could kill off an already vulnerable Grizzly bear population.

The Sierra Club of Canada tells The Calgary Sun the area west of Pincher Creek between Crowsnest Pass and Waterton Lakes National Park is home to about 51 Grizzlies, and logging will threaten their ecosystem.

The logging trucks are scheduled to move in a couple of weeks.

Alberta Sustainable Resource Development says logging has gone on in Alberta for years, and it’s done in a way that’s compatible with the natural habitat.
