Northern BC residents split over pipeline

As Enbridge’s Northern Gateway Pipeline project goes under the microscope this week, residents of Northern BC appear to be split on their opinion of the $5.5-billion proposal.
The pipeline, which would travel from Alberta’s oilsands to Kitimat, BC, starts the environmental hearings process this week.
And that has supporters and detractors of the project speaking-out according to Smithers, BC, reporter Marisca Dekkema.
“It used to be just people who were against were outspoken. But now, people are on the other side are starting to speak-up,” says Dekkema
Christina Doll lives in Prince George and says there’s a real mixed reaction to the project.
“There has been quite a bit of out-cry, you know, opposition to the pipeline,” she says, “there are a lot of people don’t really have a side when it comes to the pipeline, and then there are those who support it.”
The National Energy Board has set aside 18 months for the hearings with over four-thousand people expected to address the panel.
