Delay in new school board financial policy

Adoption of a new policy deferring financial decisions away from Calgary’s school board has been delayed at least a week.

Trustee Sheila Taylor was the only member of the board to vote against the new governance model Tuesday, but that one “no” vote allows for public feedback over the next week before it can officially be approved for use.

Under the proposed “Coherent Governance Model”, trustees will no longer need to vote on expenditures exceeding $500-thousand, transportation fees, and schools’ budgets.

Those decisions instead will be deferred those to un-elected officials like the superintendent.
