Council to debate bike-share program

A proposed bike-share program will be debated at City Hall this week.

The project, which has been called a ‘waste of money’ by at least one alderman… would cost $2.5 million.

Alderman Druh Farrell, who came up with the idea,  tells the Sun it’s not expected to go anywhere just yet because administration is looking at how to put it into action.

The proposal comes four years after a similar program fell apart in Edmonton, after a number of bikes were stolen.

Farrell thinks that could be avoided in Calgary by using more identifiable bikes and requiring credit cards or memberships.
