Friends of a critically ill Calgary girl are trying to raise funds to help her family deal with crippling medical bills.
Lexi Whyte, a talented 15 year-old ballerina, has been struck with a rare bone tumor in her skull and is believed to have a syndrome that makes her allergic to her internal organs.
Family friend Barb Cox tells 660News the extremely painful and debilitating condition can no longer be treated in Calgary.
“It’s causing multiple system issues and causing her internal organs to be covered in rashes on the inside and she’s also covered on the outside. She has body spasms, her jaw locks, her skin splits and breaks open and bleeds. She’s in a lot of pain,” says Cox.
Lexi now has to be flown to Toronto where there are more treatment options.
The first fundraiser will be held Friday, January 27th at Studio 82 in south Calgary.
