EPCOR to close Calgary call centre

Ninety employees at EPCOR will soon have a tough decision ahead of them, relocate to Edmonton or look for other work.
The electricity giant has announced it will be closing it’s Calgary operations in favour of consolidating services out of the provincial capital.
“The review looked at all aspects of operations and what it showed was the greatest cost-benefit to our ratepayer was to merge operations,” says spokesman Tim le Riche.
He says call volumes in the past decade have been reduced, more than 40% due to improved industry data flow and increased customer understanding.
Le Riche couldn’t comment on whether that meant it would translate to a savings on customers’ bills.
Employees were given notice yesterday and will have until February 26th to make a decision.
Those who choose to move to Edmonton will be provided with financial support while those who choose to stay behind will be given severance packages and professional assistance finding a job.
EPCOR also anticipates there will be job openings as a result with the company.
