Canadians divided over immigration

Angus Reid reports that since September 2010, the proportion of Canadians who think immigration is having a positive impact on the country, has increased.
The online survey of just over one thousand adults, found 39 per cent of respondents believe immigration is having a positive effect in Canada, while 39 per cent think it’s having a negative effect.
Pollster Mario Canseco tells 660News, the interesting thing about the numbers is younger Canadians have a more favourable view than older Canadians.
Younger Canadians also support the concept of mosaic where cultural differences are not only valued but allowed to be preserved.
Older Canadians would prefer to see immigrants assimilate and blend into society.
The bottom line is that more than 62 per cent think multiculturalism has been good for the country.
Just over 30 per cent think racism is a significant problem in Canada.
