Groundhogs predicting when winter will end

Thursday is Groundhog Day; when furry critters predict how much longer winter will be hanging around based on whether or not they see their shadows.
If a shadow is spotted, the rodent will retreat into its den preparing for another six weeks of winter. If no shadow is spotted, then spring-like conditions are just around the corner.
Alberta’s Balzac Billy climbed out from his burrow at 8:12 MST and put on his sunglasses, indicating he saw his shadow and we’re in for more winter.
A few other famous rodent prognosticators made their predictions earlier this morning, and they disagreed with Alberta’s “groundhog.”
Shubenacadie Sam in Nova Scotia and Wiarton Willie in Ontario both failed to see their shadows, predicting an early spring.
Pennsylvania’s Punxsutawney Phil is calling for six more weeks of winter.
