AUMA not happy with budget

Municipalities are unimpressed with the province’s proposed budget saying it gives too much uncertainty regarding essential services.
Linda Sloan, President of the Alberta Urban Municipalities Association, says currently funds are distributed among the 277 villages, towns and cities in a grant-type formula over the last few years, and that money is subject to reduction or partisan distribution.
She adds, the issue at hand is that these centres need to enter into long term contracts to provide essential services, and this budget provides no cost certainty beyond 2012.
