Vanhouwe public inquiry begins

The first of a three-day public inquiry has begun at the Calgary courts into the death of a 35-year-old Calgary man.
Marvin Vanhouwe was shot three times by a Calgary officer after he refused to release a gun and surrender to police at his southwest home in 2009.
The inquiry is meant to further discuss the fatality, the investigation and what happened on May 24th of that year.
The 35-year-old’s brother expressed his concerns through a letter, questioning the excessive force that may have been used as well as the guns found in his brother’s home.
Thirteen guns, as well as the loaded hand gun pointed at police, were found on the day of the standoff.
