Province may have to provide funerals for poor

The province may soon have to provide funeral services for underprivileged Albertans.
Burials and cremations for people on welfare, or children under the care of the province, are currently provided by the Alberta Funeral Services Association.
But a contract between the province and AFSA ends at the end of April.
The association is demanding the province cover services for a broader range of religious faiths, as well as proper sized coffins for children as a part of a new deal.
According to The Calgary Sun, funeral directors currently receive just under $1700 for their services while a typical funeral costs about $6500.
