Illegal wildcat strike comes to an end

EDMONTON – A one-day illegal strike by hospital support workers across Alberta has been resolved with both parties agreeing to binding arbitration.
Alberta Health Services says bargaining will resume immediately.
Earlier in the day, more than 600 workers walked off the job at more than a dozen locations across Alberta.
They were protesting the most recent contract offer, which they said was worse than the one they had previously rejected.
The job action led to about 70 cancellations of elective surgeries and delays in getting meals to patients.
The 22,000 support staffers across Alberta perform the non-medical jobs in hospitals, including cleaning rooms, sterilizing equipment, clerking and handling security.
