“The Artist” dominates the Oscars

Hollywood rolled out the red carpet and turned on the bright lights to honour its best at the 84th annual Academy Awards Sunday night.
The mostly silent movie “The Artist” came out on top, nominated for ten Oscars.
It picked up five including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actor in a Leading Role.
“The Artist” also picked up an Academy Award for Best Original Score and Costume Design.
Martin Scorcese’s “Hugo” also went home with five Academy Awards, including Cinematography, Art Direction, Sound Editing, Sound Mixing and Visual Effects.
Meryl Streep won her third Oscar, taking Best Actress for her portrayal of Margaret Thatcher in “The Iron Lady”.
Best Supporting Actress went to Octavia Spencer for “The Help”.
Canadian Christopher Plummer was honoured as Best Supporting Actor for his role in “Beginners”
Billy Crystal, who was hosting the show for the ninth time, kicked things off with the usual collage that included himself inserted into the top nominated movies.
The collage also featured a kissing scene with George Clooney as well as a scene where he gets advice from Canadian pop star Justin Bieber.
Crystal also pulled-off a song-and-dance number, which included a tribute to Martin Scorcese’s “Hugo”.
