Jody robbins with sweetspot.ca says the best camps for all ages can be found at your local recreation centres, “At Westside Recreation Centre they have everything from crafts and climbing walls to swimming classes can be included in it. Trico Centre also has crafts, sports and swimming and what’s nice about them is they have specific half day options available. The City of Calgary have different themed one like princess and pirate that are especially great for the younger ones.”

She says day camps are the big trend right now, “There are a lot more day camp options for parents cause if people are going away they may not want to register their kids for a full week.”

If you are just looking for things to do around the city Robbins suggests, “The penguin plunge is a new exhibit at the Calgary Zoo, a lot of people haven’t been able to check out the new Telus Spark yet and there are also skiing lessons at Canada Olympic Park.”

she says there are great benefits to sending kids to camps…as it gives them the opportunity to make new friends and gives them a chance to unplug and go back to school recharged.

There are a lot of benefits to sending your kids to camp, “It gives them a new opportunity to make friends outside of their neighbourhood or their school.  It is also great for exercise, most camps have physical component to get kids off the couch.  There is also the enrichment factor, there are educational camps like at Telus Spark or at the Zoo that allows them to get immersed into a topic that is really interesting to them,” says Robbins.
