Students across the country are being urged to lobby the administrators of their post secondary schools to end the sale and consumption of bottled water.
Roxanne Dubois with the Canadian Federation of Students says there are a couple of reasons why we need to say no to bottled H2O.
“This is for environmental concerns,” Dubois tells 660News, “but also to recognize the fact that water is a human right and should be available to everyone, not necessarily something to be sold for profit.”
Dubois says by backing the campaign, people are not only helping maintain Canada’s water infrastructure, but are also helping the environment by reducing our carbon footprint.
“The goal here is to draw attention to the fact that we have public infrastructure for water in the country, and it should be well maintained,” she continues. “It’s actually better regulated than the bottled water industry is.”
The students’ group is taking the action as part of Bottle Water Free Day on March 15th.
Over the past three years, over 22 Canadian campuses have followed the lead of the Canadian Federation of Students.
