Fire department secures loose siding on highrise

Fire crews were able to prevent a dangerous situation downtown Thursday.

People in a building across from a highrise in the 5700 block of 2nd St. S.W. called police after they spotted loose siding that looked like it might fall off.

The High Angle Rescue Team was called, and worked from the roof of the 15-storey building to refasten the siding.

Meanwhile, other members of the Fire Department worked from the basket of an aerial ladder truck to secure flashing on the eighth floor that had also come loose.

The Fire Department says high winds are to blame.

No injuries were reported and no material actually fell from the building.
