Party leaders kick off election campaigns

With the election campaign barely a few hours old, three of the four main party leaders launched their Calgary campaigns on Monday.
Wildrose leader Danielle Smith sounded confident in Bridgeland, proclaiming a Wildrose majority on election day, April 23rd 2012. She called her party the smart choice. “We are aiming for 44 plus seats,” Smith said. “We’re not just looking to form a couple of seats.”
Tory leader Alison Redford, meanwhile, was door knocking in Calgary-Elbow, her own riding. “There’s going to be a lot of competitive campaigns,” Redford said. “That’s a good thing. It’ll get Albertans engaged and able to think about what they want the future of the province to be.”
NDP leader Brian Mason also kicked off his campaign at the northeast offices Monday.He says his party will work hard to increase the number of New Democrats in the legislature.
Liberal Leader Raj Sherman says he wants to cut post-secondary school tuition and open more long-term care homes for seniors.
