More promises from party leaders on day five of the election campaign.
Wildrose Leader Danielle Smith is promising to eliminate mandatory school fees if her party wins the April 23rd Alberta election.
Campaigning in Lethbridge, Smith says the move would help alleviate some of the financial burdens families face.
“Wildrose understands that Alberta’s young families and children are a major source of our provinces energy and economic strength. Government should support them and do what it can to allow hard-working parents to keep more of their money in their pocket,” said Smith. “I’m proud to announce that a Wildrose government would ban mandatory school fees and bring an end to this unfair nickel-and-diming of Alberta families.”
N-D-P Leader Brian Mason says it’s time to bury the government’s two-billion-dollar carbon capture and storage program.
He says the money could be better used as interest-free loans for green home retrofits.
“The Conservatives have sided with big oil instead of protecting the environment. They’ve put our energy sector at risk and haven’t helped homeowners and businesses become more sustainable. But there’s hope. It’s not too late to have greener communities and cleaner oilsands,” said Mason.
Liberal leader Raj Sherman says in vesting in health and wellness will save millions.
“The old saying that prevention is the best medicine is absolutely true,” said Sherman. “Focusing on health and wellness will lead to billions in savings for the health care system and the economy over the next 20 years. Making sure every Albertan has a family doctor will lead to fewer hospital visits and fewer people on sick leave – which means a boost to the bottom line for Alberta businesses.”
From Edmonton, PC leader Alison Redford says her government will help seniors through the Seniors’ Property Tax Deferral program.
“This is about easing the financial burden for seniors and their families. We want Alberta seniors to have the supports they need and deserve, so that they can enjoy their lives, surrounded by the comforts we only get at home,” Premier Redford said.
