If successful on April 23rd, the Wildrose party is promising to put more money back in the pocket’s of Albertans’.
Called it the Alberta Energy Dividend, Wildrose leader Danielle Smith says the idea is to return 20 per cent of all provincial surpluses generated by oil and gas revenues directly to Albertans.
The Canadian Taxpayers Federation applauds the idea of sharing the province’s energy wealth.
However, Alberta Director Scott Hennig says he would prefer if the cash came from accrued interest out of the Heritage Savings Trust Fund, not general revenues.
Mount Royal University Political Scientist Duane Bratt is not a fan. He questions the math of the Wildrose, wondering how the party can built up the Heritage Savings Trust Fund, eliminate the deficit and and still issue energy royalty cheques.
