Possible discovery of a rat in a southeast apartment complex

Bylaw Services says it’s not unusual to get a call about the discovery of a rat in Calgary. But rarely do the animals turn out to be the much disdained rodents.

Thursday, a repairman at an apartment complex in southeast Midnapore discovered what he believed to be a dead rat.

Bylaw’s Patty Robinson tells the Calgary Herald that sometimes what’s believed to be a rat actually turns out to be a squirrel with no hair on its tail.

As for the most recent discovery, Robinson says it’s too early to tell if it’s a rat because often dead animals look very similiar.

Alberta has had a program in place since the 1950s to keep the province rat-free.
