Calgary is a buzz with an urban beekeeping workshop.
Eliese Watson of A.B.C. Apiaries and Bees for Communities tells 660News, we play a major role on the honey stage.
“Alberta produces about 85 per cent of Canada’s honey surplus and Canada’s is one of the fifth largest honey producers in the world,” explains Watson.
Watson also says the number of hobby beekeepers in Calgary is on the rise.
“Last year we brought in about 56 colonies of bees with some of those going to rural areas around Red Deer, Edmonton and the Crowsnest Pass but about 40 stayed in Calgary. This year we are bring in about 80 colonies with about 60 of those to stay in the city.”
