Redford comments on Wildrose

PC Leader Alison Redford blasted the Wildrose Party and its leader during a press conference in Calgary’s northwest Tuesday.
Redford is concerned with Wildrose plans to possibly replace RCMP services with a provincial police force.
“We know that, especially in rural Alberta, the RCMP are a long-standing tradition. It’s a great Canadian institution, and I think Canadians are very proud of it,” says Redford.
She points out there are financial benefits to using the RCMP as well because under the current 20-year contract, the federal government pays for 30-per cent of RCMP services.
Redford also poked fun at Danielle Smith after the Wildrose leader cancelled morning TV appearances claiming she needed more sleep.
“I was awake at 5:50 a.m. today to do CityTV’s Breakfast Television, and I felt pretty perky, so I’m going to keep it up,” laughs Redford.
On a more serious note, Redford was shocked at comments made by a Calgary-based Wildrose candidate over the weekend.
Dr. Ron Leech, who is running in Calgary-Greenwood, said on a radio program that he has an advantage in the election because he is Caucasian.
Redford says there would be no room for that attitude in her party.
“I think those are inappropriate comments,” she says. “I know they don’t reflect my views, I don’t think they reflect the views of our party, and I don’t believe they are current with what Albertans think either.”
Leech has since apologized for his comments.
