BOC report and Carney’s future to be discussed Wednesday

More insight is coming into the outlook for Canadian interest rates.

The Bank of Canada issues its monetary policy report Wednesday, the day after it signaled rates may start to rise later this year.

There is also some speculation about Governor Mark Carney’s job prospects.

The bank is denying a report that Carney was approached to take over the same job at the Bank of England.

Carney will likely be asked about that story in the London Financial Times, when he holds a news conference following the release of the Bank of Canada monetary forecast Wednesday morning.

He will also be grilled about the central bank’s more upbeat outlook for the economy this year, after signaling that interest rates may have to start to rise from ultra low levels.

It was a similar forecast that the central bank made about a year ago, before the U.S. and European economies ran into problems.
