She was Canada’s oldest person at the age of 113.
Cora Hansen of Medicine Hat passed away Wednesday morning.
Gillian Slade of the Medicine Hat News says Hansen was known as a woman with great integrity who also lived an active life.
“Apparently one of her philosophy’s was when she was no longer on the farm she would take longer walks each day and I’m sure that contributed to her longevity.” says Slade.
Slade also recalls one story she was told by Hansen’s grandson of a time when Cora was having winter water troubles on the farm in Elkwater.
“When asked by concerned family how she was doing she said no problem,” explains Slade.
“She told them she was just going outside collecting snow and melting it. Keep in mind she was 97 at the time.”
Born in Minnesota in 1899, Hansen was the only person in Canada to claim she had lived in three different centuries.
