Several Calgary eateries make greenest restaurants list

In honour of Earth Day, a Canadian food services group has just released the country’s greenest restaurants and a half-dozen Calgary spots made the list.
According to the Leaders in Environmentally Accountable Food Service or LEAF, the River Café, Boxwood Café, Caffe Beano, the Naaco Food Truck, Purple Pastry Chef and the Southern Institute of Technology all made the cut.
Boxwood chef Andy Bujak said there are number of practices all restaurants can do to be greener.
“Everyone has to order takeout packaging and everyone has to order food, instead of choosing some big label your rep has for you, you can ask them to
source things that are biodegradable, recyclable, compostable,” he said.
Bujak adds other ways to be green is buying local food or growing your own.
Sixteen restaurants across the country were named Canada’s greenest eating spots.
