Calgary Police probe attempted child abduction

Police are on the hunt for a man and a woman, following an alleged child abduction in the southwest community of Windsor Park.

A woman claims when she went outside to check on her child after hearing her scream, she saw her three-year-old daughter in the arms of a stranger.

The mother says when she confronted the pair, the child was put down and the two fled the area on foot.

Her father describes it as his worst nightmare and tells 660News he’s thankful he taught her what to do when faced with that danger.

“We both have spoken to her, like if something of that sort happens to scream and yell,” he says. “So she knew what had to be done.”

He adds the whole event has been particularly hard on the three year old.

“All night my daughter could not sleep,” says Joshi. “And we had to make sure we were next to her, consoling her, making sure everything was good.”

Police Duty Inspector Paul Stacey tells 660News shortly after the call came in around 6:00 p.m. Monday, they flooded the area in and around 5th Street and 56th Avenue S.W.

Despite canvassing the neighbourhood, investigators did not locate the two strangers and will be back in the area Tuesday.

Stacey says businesses will also be asked to review their video surveillance cameras to see if they captured any images of the two people police are looking for.

The first suspect is described as a dark-skinned black male, 30 to 40-years-old, just over 6 feet tall with a very skinny build.

The second suspect is described as a white female, 30 top 40-years-old, 5’6″ tall with a heavy build.

Anyone with information is asked to call police or CrimeStoppers.
