An evacuation is ordered, as wildfires continue in Northern Alberta

A wildfire is threatening a community close to Bonnyville in northeast Alberta.

A mandatory evacuation was issued late Tuesday for about a dozen homes as another wildfire moves closer in the Forsythe area.

Diane Jenkinson with the MD of Bonnyville says the advancement of one blaze has stopped; a second fire is contained south of the town.

The blaze is one of two out-of-control wildfires burning in the province.

The other is in the Grasslands area north of Edmonton.

Earlier in the day, Alberta downgraded a fire near Lodgepole to being held.

The wildfire threat ranges from extreme to high in areas north of Edmonton and a fire ban remains in effect in forested areas until further notice.

There also continues to be a fire ban for most of Alberta parks, from Waterton Lakes National Park all the way north to Fort McMurray.

This all comes on the one year anniversary of the Slave Lake wildfires that destroyed about a third of the northern Alberta town.
