Gas Tax Day

We all know the price of gas is pretty high, but new numbers from the Canadian Taxpayers Federation shows Canadians will pay $21-billion this year in taxes on fuel for your car.
The CFT says nearly $2-billion of that will be a tax that is added onto the price per litre after you have already been taxed.
“At one time Stephen Harper’s Conservatives were committed to ending the unethical practice of charging the GST on the entire price of gasoline, including provincial and federal gas taxes. We’re hoping he still feels the same way,” said CTF-Alberta director Scott Hennig.
The group adds we’re not even seeing the proper return on investment for these taxes, because road conditions have actually gotten worse as government revenues have gone up.
“The evidence is clear: lower gas taxes mean lower pump prices,” said Hennig. “Don’t let politicians fool you into thinking that cutting gas taxes won’t result in relief at the pump.”
