Jobless Canadians may have a long commute ahead

Employment Insurance recipients may be forced to hit the highway thanks to some changes to the EI program by the Conservative government.
It’s still not totally clear what those changes will be, but according to The Globe and Mail, there are hints anyone collecting employment insurance will be expected to look for work up to an hour’s commute away.
Calgarians 660News spoke with Wednesday morning were split on the idea, with some supporting it and others asking how far is too far?
Rochelle relies on transit to get around Calgary; she says forcing someone to work that distance from home is a little much.
“I think they’re just being a little close-minded and not realizing the bigger picture for what people have to do to get to work,” she says.
Kevin says EI should only be used as a last resort and is all for the idea.
“They (the unemployed) should be forced to try to find a job somewhere else, even if it’s further away,” he says.
Changes are expected to come when the government releases its omnibus budget bill this spring.
